Sadgemuffin and Ghetto Sled

Sunday we decided to go up to the mountains and enjoy the snow before it all melted. After getting lost, almost running
out of gas, singing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star until we could breathe no more, and finding Palomar Mountain State Park still closed after the fires, we finally arrived, found a small patch of snow and played like little kids.

Matthew had a ball pelting us with snowballs... ...but he didn't exactly like it when the tables were turned.
We were up there on the most beautiful clear day. It must have been 70 degrees. It was so still and beautiful and the only sound you could hear was giggling. Meghan was not so sure she liked the snow and most of her pictures are of the top of her head because she wouldn't look up from the ground long enough to ham it up for the camera. She loved looking at the snow but did not like touching it. Case and point:

She would constantly touch the snow tentatively, look at me and say "uh-oh". As in uh-oh mom, you'll be finding the muddy remnants of the trip in the Odyssey for years to come. We did manage to get one decent shot of her.

See- there's that pensive little uh-oh face she has.....and has quite frequently as she's getting into things that she shouldn't.

Being as prepared as we normally are, we did not exactly have the right tools to be doing anything resembling playing in the snow. Of course, as always we improvise as Manny found what we loving will refer to as "ghetto sled", i.e. a cardboard box from a flat of water.......and the rest is history.

Matthew was very concerned about being eaten by a bear. Manny told Matthew that he shouldn't worry about bears becauase Sasquatch ate all the bears. Matthew ran around the woods looking for "Sadgemuffin" or Matthew's attempt to pronounce Sasquatch. This is Matthew trying to explain what Sadgemuffin looks like:

All in all a successful trip - especially because we didn't run out of gas as we were lucky enough to find a gas station on the Indian Reservation where gas was $3.79 a gallon. We bought a gallon and limped back to civilization.
