Free thoughts

Just a couple of thoughts for tonight. First, noticed on a walk tonight how there were so few people out in our little subdivision. Normally we have this huge block party and everyone brings something to share. It's usually a huge celebration. This year this place looks like a ghost town. Between families losing their homes (we have 10 now on 2 relatively small streets), families about to lose their homes, and families breaking apart, I guess celebrating like you have no cares isn't as high on the priority list. Guess it's just a sign of the times....but isn't the 4th about just that? About possibility, opportunity, and hope? Do we get so bogged down when reality gets so tough that we forget how blessed we are?

Second, just wanted to realize how blessed we really are. Yes, maybe we are all struggling to keep our heads above water and life is tough, but we have it so much better than so many people. We have so many liberties that others don't. We can go to the grocery store without worrying about getting shot over what we stand for. We don't have to worry about our friends turning on us because of what we believe or because boundaries within a community have changed. We have the freedom to allow our daughters to go to school, to drive cars, to have careers. We always have hope, we always have freedom. We go to sleep at night not having to worry about our basic human rights. We have access to everything we need and everything we think we need. We go to sleep under a blanket of freedom and wake up to the opportunity of a new day. We always have the glitter of hope on the horizon no matter how hard life can be.

Was just thinking of how grateful I am to those who protect that freedom. So many soldiers (and their families) make such great sacrifices for our benefit. I am so proud of those men and women. It's awesome to think that such pride for our nation exists and that such unselfish and benevolent humans are hard at work every day.

God bless America!
