Random Stuff

Sometimes it seems like we're busier than ever even though I'm on leave but time is still standing still too........waiting for this kid is getting rather old.

We got Matt enrolled in the library's summer reading program and he's having fun with that so far. He has to read 3 books every week and the reward at the end is tickets to a Storm game (our double-A baseball team whose stadium is right down the street). He's finished his first two weeks reading already and got a free ticket to Legoland. He's going to day camp two days a week at school which is nice because they do all kinds of fun activities and do some academic stuff to keep him sharp. He's swimming two days a week too but we've only got another week of that. We went blueberry picking, caught a firefighter demonstration, and have been finding all kinds of fun and free things to do! Up after swim: VBS, soccer clinic, basketball clinic, and hopefully we can squeeze in another swim session before school starts.

Sunday afternoon I decided to try to catch a little cat nap while Meghan was sleeping and the boys were playing Star Wars on the Wii. All of a sudden, our dogs start barking like there's no tomorrow. I admit I was really irritated because I was just dropping off to sleep, but I opened my eyes and this is what was out the window:

Yep - the Goodyear blimp. Apparently the dogs didn't like it so much. I had NO idea how loud that blimp is - I mean, it's a helium balloon with a fan attached to it, right? Wrong - it is the loudest thing I've heard in the sky for a long time - most likely because it was flying so low. Turns out there was a huge Motorcross event at our local track and I guess they were filming it. It floated around for 2 or 3 hours driving the dogs ape crazy. The only snicker I got out of it thinking that for once I wasn't the only blimp in Lake Elsinore.....and tried to gain perspective that it could always be worse - I could be as big as the Goodyear blimp.

Summer's finally arrived in a big way. it's been so mild until just last weekend. It was so hot Sunday afternoon we let the kids enjoy the ghetto past-time of running through the sprinklers. Hey, they enjoy it and I think it's just a summer rite of passage.

I love trying to keep things simple for the kids - it's so much fun to watch them play and have fun with those simple things! Meggie really enjoyed it this time - I think Matt had as much fun laughing at her as he did running through the sprinklers himself. He's figured out that he can get her to do pretty much anything that will get her in trouble. Sneaky little guy!
Today was really hot and my feet blew up.........this kid needs to be evicted soon.
