Things I did today:
- Got woken up at 5:45 (by Matthew).
- Fed Matthew breakfast
- Watched 20 minutes of 90210 re-run (guilty secret pleasure)
- Started Meghan's laundry
- Cleaned a bathroom
- Got Meghan up & dressed
- Made Meghan's eggs
- Got myself ready
- Ran out the door w/ Meghan to work at Cornerstone's nursery for a couple of hours (they stress parent involvement!)
- Stopped at Target to get A&D and sunscreen for Meghan's supply to start school tomorrow
- Got rid of every sippy cup, pacifier, and plastic spoon of Meghan's that had BPA in it (if you have little ones who use these, check out this article:
http://zrecs.blogspot.com/2007/05/sippy-cup-showdown-safer-bpa-free-sippy.html
- Put gas in the van.
- Fed Meghan lunch.
- Started to pack Meghan's bag for school tomorrow.
- Washed all of Meghan's new BPA-free stuff.
- Made Matt & Manny lunch.
- Made myself a half of a sandwich.
- Unloaded the dishwasher.
- Ate lunch while reading my homework assignment for the week.
- Took my quiz for my class while helping Matt with Thursday night's homework that didn't get done because we spent a good part of the night in urgent care because I thought he fractured his orbit when he was playing ghostie (e.g. putting a blanket over his head and running around) and ran right into the corner of the table with his eye......ugh! Good news is he's OK but has a killer shiner in time for class pictures Tuesday.
- Did Matt's laundry.
- Washed all the delicates in the sink by hand.
- Made Matt a snack.
- Entertained Meghan in her bed after her nap (she WILL NOT leave her bed until we've played peek-a-boo through the bars for quite some time).
- Put together our new garage storage units. One of the great things about 9 years of marriage is unspoken understanding when it comes to assembling anything. Manny opens the box, hands me the instructions, I read them (and demonstrate sometimes), and he muscles it together. We can do this now with very few words. It works beautifully (most of the time).
- Helped Miss Picky (Meghan) eat her dinner.
- Ironed Matt's school uniforms. (he looks like Pigpen if I don't but ironing for a 6 year-old seems stupid).
- Played "where's Meghan & Matthew?" with the storage units in the living room. Couldn't keep
them out of those things.
- Played with Meghan and her Little People
- Finished packing Meghan's stuff for school.
- Laid out the kids' clothes for tomorrow
- Laid out my clothes for tomorrow.
- Used the Magic Eraser to get rid of the lovely drawings that Matt drew on the back of the door
to his room, his closet door and a baseboard. Tomorrow I attempt to remove it from the carpet (and yeah, the crayons are gone from his room).
- Gave Meghan a bath.
- Put Meghan to bed after at least 10 stories. (we divide and conquer at bedtime - Manny put Matt to bed)
- Rub Meghan's back and reflect on how big and funny she is now
- Study for an hour and take my quarter-term exam (not due until Saturday AND I got a 97%.. YAAAY!!!)
Things still to do tonight:
- Finish this lengthy blog (ok, I am keyed up from test-stress)
- Nightly Scripture reading.
Things I did today that are totally selfish:
- I drove through Starbucks on the way home from Target - I needed that Frappucino!
- Wrote this very lengthy blog
Things coming up this week:
- School for Meghan tomorrow
- School pictures for Matt Tuesday
- Book club for me starting Tuesday night (am thinking will not even attempt it in light of before-mentioned extensive list
- Last day of closing (translation: 18-20 hour day at work on Thursday).
Things so dumb only I can pull them off:
- Lost my cell phone somewhere in the quarter mile between work and the Starbucks across the street. Looked everywhere, bugged the store employees and finally found it in the van 8
hours later (oops).
- Poked myself in the head with the pencil that I had stuck into my ponytail when I tried to catch a few seconds' nap......so hard I had tears in my eyes. I have to stop this bad habit that I have of tucking pencils into it when studying. Would lead poisoning explain these stupid things that seem to happen to me? It's a good thing that the grey matter in my brain is surrounded by lots of air!
Things I discovered this week
- Found a new band called Sanctus Real that I LOVE. They're a cross between P.O.D. and Switchfoot. I love a Christian band with some teeth to them. Concert coming up at Cornerstone in October and I can't wait to see them love. Will add some to the playlist (time permitting)
- Found a new shoe brand called Tom's Shoes. All organic, mostly cute and they have a heart. For every pair of shoes that you buy, they donate a pair of shoes to a child in a less-fortunate country. A few times a year they organize a "Shoe Drop" and fly into said countries with tens of thousands of pairs of shoes that they give out of the graciousness of their hearts.
Things I'm chewing on this week:
- Mature people can differentiate between what is urgent and what is important.
- Mature people of faith do not get rocked in their convictions by the storms that occur in life. They are steadfast. Other mature people of faith help keep one that is getting rocked by storms to stay on the deck of the boat (thankfully!). (see Ephesians 4:14).
- We are tested and tempted all the time. But through this, you will never be tempted beyond what you can bear and Heavenly Father always gives you a way out. (1 Corinthians 10:13). Another reason why He is so amazing!
- It is a tremendous blessing to be able to do all of the things that I did today for my family. Maybe sometimes these things seem to be a chore, but if we hadn't been blessed with everything that we do have, you wouldn't have a chance to do all of these things out of love with a happy heart.
So I guess I've been physically, mentally, and spiritually consumed the last few weeks, but the good news is that it's all felt very focused and productive. One step at a time..........and we're all in it together. I think that's the best part!
Going to try to go pass out for a bit - maybe if I poke myself in the head with that pencil again I can sleep. That dreaded insomnia cycle of mine is back again..........
